My story hails from a desolate, one-horse town by the name of Memphis, TN. The year was 2003 and I was one of twelve other kids living along a dead end street. The summers were hot. We toiled in the dirt and mud, digging. Sweat soaked through our oversized graphic tees. Mud caked the soles of our shoes and stained our socks. Why were we digging? No reason at all. This motley crew of school kids just decided that we wanted to dig a super deep hole that day, never minding the summer heat. I was among them, 9 years old with a stick in my hand. All I wanted to do was to dig and have fun with my friends in the process.

Today, I am still that same kid--or at least I try to be, minus the crew socks and bowl cut. Shortly after the summer of ‘03, I got a camcorder and discovered filmmaking. For the next 18 years, I would study it, live it, even move to Chicago then Los Angeles for it. I have worked on a vast amount of projects, both on the photography and production side. I understand what it takes to support a production and how to tackle necessary tasks to ensure snares and miscommunications are nonexistent. And now, in an effort to put positivity back out into the world, I have set my sights on a career in animation. I want to pick that stick back up. Not digging holes in the dirt, but drawing and creating stories that my younger self would strive to stay awake through even after playing in the mud all day. My “digging” has become drawing. And all I want to do now is draw and have fun with my friends in the process.

Even if the summers are hot.
